Orange travel sweets at first. Then old books, dunnage, wet earth, leaf mulch, an autumnal orchard and a sappy notes of pine resin and herbal liqueurs. Some old cracked leather furniture as well. Water hews a more textural landscape with bitter chocolate, roast coffee beans, game meats and Japanese plum wine. The palate is dense with wood ash, wet heather, cherry pits, marshmallow rocky road, plum jam, peach stones and a forest-fresh earthiness. Reduction elevates the freshness with warm espresso, sour cherries, grapefruit skins and a rugged, earthy minerality. Matured for 20 years in a bourbon hogshead before transfer to a 2nd fill charred red wine barrique.
